Kirk played his minor hockey all over eastern Canada, winning a provincial title in Nova Scotia. He eventually moved to Fredericton where he moved up through the ranks and graduated to the Midget "AAA" Canadiens. During his two years with the Canadiens, they won two Provincial titles and one Atlantic title, which led to an appearance at the Air Canada Cup in 1993.
Kirk went on to play 3 years of junior hockey in Ontario, the last 2 with the Collingwood Blues of the OPJHL. During his time in Collingwood he set several team records, was voted runner up for league rookie of the year, and was picked up by the Cobourg Cougars for the Dudley Hewitt Cup in 1996. Upon the completion of his junior hockey career, Kirk signed his NCAA letter of intent with Canisius College. That was his intended destination until his hometown UNB Varsity Reds offered him a position. It was during his first year at UNB that they won the programs first National Championship. During his years at UNB he was selected Male Athlete of the Week, and still holds the team record for the lowest goals against average in a season. Beyond his playing experience, Kirk brings over 15 years of experience in goaltender training and development.
